Students from Truro College on their unique work experience in Goettingen

27 November – 1 December 2017:

After a day’s journey, a group of eight students from Truro College (Cornwall) arrived in Goettingen for the exchange with the “Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium” which includes working in several placements. This time the English students assisted teachers in the classroom of four primary schools and a nursery school, served customers in a café, in a wholefood shop and at the ‘Goettinger Tafel’.

The exchange with Truro College has a long tradition at our school. The students from Cornwall stay with the families of their exchange partners (year 10) and together with them learn about recent German history in the ‘Borderland Museum’ in Teistungen and about milestones in the history of Goettingen during an entertaining and witty guided tour of the city. They enjoy wafers with hot raspberries in the charmingly rustic “Waldcafé Teufelskanzel”, show their courage and talent in a climbing lesson at the RoXx and go ice skating behind the ‘Lokhalle’. Beside these activities, there is one every year that beats them all – the Goettingen Christmas Market, all the more when covered in a thin layer of promising snowflakes.

So, after a week’s time, partners have become friends, and thanks to digital facilities everyone can easily bridge the gap until June – then the German group will work in different placements in Cornwall. A challenge everyone is already looking forward to.
